10.22

三說意者，前本請分中已說地體，令彼上機悟解玄旨。今辯地相，令中下之流隨相開解，故明說也。又前已略示令生正解，今更廣陳令起行修，故明說也。

Third, the intention behind the explanation: previously, in the original Request section, the essence of the bhūmis had already been explained, enabling those of superior capacity to awaken to and understand the profound purport. Now, by discerning the characteristics of the bhūmis, he causes those of intermediate and lower capacity to open up and understand according to the characteristics; therefore he provides the explanation. Furthermore, previously he had shown it in brief to cause them to generate correct understanding; now he explains it more extensively to cause them to give rise to practice and cultivation; therefore he provides the explanation.
