初分中二:先明能請人。眾同念者,表法深細故也。二正顯所念十法。此言不思者,顯果德法出過言慮,念此不思,悕其說也。初一問佛出處;二問出現之因,謂由本願,梵本云過去願清淨;三問出生處種族家,此釋依梵名,非是因中佛種性等;四總明應機現世;次三別顯三輪業用;八問大用之體;九問大用之相;十問大用自在。

In the first section, there are two parts: first, clarifying the persons able to make the request. That the assembly recollected together signifies that the Dharma is profound and subtle. Second, directly revealing the ten dharmas recollected. The word 'inconceivable' here shows that the dharmas of fruitional qualities surpass words and thoughts; recollecting this inconceivability, they longed for its exposition. The first asks about the Buddha's place of emergence; the second asks about the causes of emergence, meaning through past vows—the Sanskrit text says 'purity of past vows'; the third asks about the family and lineage of the place of birth—this explanation follows the Sanskrit name, not the Buddha-nature in the causal stage and the like; the fourth comprehensively clarifies appearing in the world in response to capacities; the next three specifically reveal the karmic functions of the three wheels; the eighth asks about the essence of the great function; the ninth asks about the marks of the great function; the tenth asks about the mastery of the great function.
