The ninth: the marks of the shoulders are five. First, the mark of the right shoulder, named 'all-jewel ground', is named from the virtues of its essence. 'Flames of light universally illuminating', etc., clarifies that the function and benefit can be understood. Second, the mark of the level and full right shoulder: 'universally illuminating' clarifies the karmic function. Third, in the mark of the left shoulder, 'universally emitting', etc., clarifies the karmic function, internally manifesting the spiritual powers of Buddhas exhausting the dharmadhātu. Fourth, in the function of the universally illuminating mark of the left shoulder, emitting light manifests the retribution of the Buddha's environment and beings, etc., of the dharmadhātu. Fifth, in the unmoving mark of the right shoulder, from 'giving birth to' down clarifies the karmic function, illuminating the dharmadhātu of principle, phenomena, persons, dharmas, cause, and fruition. The Dà zhìdù lùn states that the mark of the shoulders is rounded and fine; none of all trimmed shoulders are like this.
