Third, from "Sudhana heard" onward, explains seeing, paying homage, and requesting; therein are three: seeing, paying homage, and requesting. Within seeing, there are two: first, seeing the circumstantial fruit; later, seeing the direct retribution. In circumstantial retribution, an ancient commentary states: the ten layers of jeweled walls are the stages of the ten bhūmis. The ten rows of trees are the practices of the ten pāramitās. The ten layers of moats are the precepts-practices within the ten bhūmis. The waters of eight virtues are the full overflow of the water of the eight dhyāna-samādhis. Spreading with pavilions of the flowers of awakening is because the later-acquired essence of circumstantial and direct [retribution] is accomplished anew. In the second part, seeing the direct retribution, there are two: first, seeing the superior marks of the three karmas; second, from "the great assembly" onward, reveals the superiority of the retinue. Paying homage and making the request can be understood.
