Third, seeing, paying respects, and applying for instruction also has three parts: first, within seeing, there are two: first, Sudhana sees Avalokiteśvara; next, Avalokiteśvara praises Sudhana. In the former, there are four: first, seeing the superior objective and subjective [environments]. "Dwelling on the western slope of the mountain" means occupying the mountain slope and facing east to abide, which is the mark of facing the light; second, expounding the Dharma for the assembly; third, gazing attentively without blinking; fourth, from "had this thought" downward, superior mindfulness perfuming the mind. Within this, the first eight phrases specifically reveal it, and the latter two phrases summarize it. Second, from "at that time Avalokiteśvara" downward, praising Sudhana's virtues contains ten phrases: first, praising the superiority of his mind, namely possessing the three minds; second, from "facing Samantabhadra" downward, praising the superiority of his practices and vows; third, from "wishing to hear" downward, praising the superiority of upholding the Dharma; fourth, from "increasing" downward, increasing goodness without satiety; fifth, complying with the spiritual friend's teachings and instructions; sixth, from "from Mañjuśrī" downward, that on which he relies is most superior, because he relies on him to generate the mind, hence it says "rising from that ocean"; another explanation is that he flows from original enlightenment, hence it says "rising from that wisdom"; seventh, from "accomplished" downward, praising the completion of roots of goodness, hence he attains the samādhi of the power of the Buddha's empowerment; eighth, from "free from indolence" downward, praising his dedicated sincerity in seeking the Dharma; ninth, praising his seeing the Buddha to accomplish practice; tenth, from "wisdom" downward, praising the fullness of wisdom and perfect realization. From "at that time" downward, paying respects and requesting can be understood.
