Explaining the title: Bodhisattva is the essence; cloud is the characteristic, because the bodhisattvas contain the rain of Dharma, and their characteristics are closely set together. Gathering is the function. The palace is the place of gathering. Wondrous and Superior has three meanings: first, the assembly of buddhas is wondrous and superior, [so it is] the palace of the wondrous and superior ones; second, because this wondrous and superior Dharma is expounded therein; third, the palace itself is wondrous and superior, because it accords with nature. Speaking verses is verbal karma, meaning that bodhisattvas of the dharmadhātu gather like clouds, each proclaiming the Buddha's virtues with wondrous eloquence; hence it is called the chapter on "Bodhisattvas Gathering Like Clouds and Speaking Verses."
