三宗者，謂集眾放光，偈歎為宗。眾有三類：一助化眾，謂十方菩薩影嚮如來；二表法眾，謂諸首諸慧諸林諸幢等，各為寄人表示法也；三當機眾，謂教所被等。此文通茲三也。

Third, the central theme: gathering the assembly, emitting light, and praising with verses constitute the central theme. The assembly has three categories: first, the assembly that assists transformation, meaning the bodhisattvas of the ten directions who respond like shadows and echoes to the Tathāgata; second, the assembly that symbolizes the Dharma, meaning the various [bodhisattvas named] "-Chief," "-Wisdom," "-Forest," "-Banner," and so forth, each relying on a person to represent the Dharma; third, the assembly appropriate to the capacity, meaning those reached by the teaching, and so forth. This text encompasses all three.
