second, in terms of the ten bodies of the Suvikrāntavikramiparipṛcchā Sūtra, and so on; third, in terms of the ten bodies of the Dharmasaṅgīti Sūtra, and so on. Fourth, regarding the locus of attainment, there are four stages: 1. either attained solely above the bhūmis, as with the ten bodies in the Suvikrāntavikrami and Dharmasaṅgīti sūtras, distinguished in terms of the three vehicles; 2. or attained solely prior to the bhūmis, as taught here; 3. or common to both, like the ten bodies in 'Transcending the World' below; 4. or attained neither prior to the bhūmis nor above the bhūmis, as attained in the fruition stage, such as the three bodies and ten Buddhas. Fifth, determining the scope: if a bodhisattva within the three vehicles, prior to the bhūmis he must have a mortal body, and only above the bhūmis does he have a body of transformation, except for the two-vehicle practitioners who have turned their minds, who also have it prior to the bhūmis. Therefore, these ten are not subsumed under that. If within the One Vehicle, there are two explanations: if speaking in terms of subsuming upāya, both prior to the bhūmis and above the bhūmis possess transformation, because each stage ultimately reaches the Buddha-bhūmi; if speaking with respect to its own teaching, both are mortal, since the pure white jeweled net wheel-turning sage king attains the physical eye that sees universally and so forth, who is a bodhisattva of the tenth bhūmi, as taught in the text below. Furthermore, like the youth Sudhana, who reached the stage of Samantabhadra with a mortal body, yet all of these are mortal bodies identical with the Dharma-gate, and are therefore not faults. Second, elaborating the preceding benefit to others: first, reiterating the preceding to introduce what follows, meaning that relying on these ten bodies he transforms and guides sentient beings. Distinct clauses are ten: 1. generating wholesome qualities, 2. separating from suffering, 3. abiding in bliss—these above are worldly benefits; 4. revealing their path of escape, 5. causing them to enter, 6. causing them to understand conventional truth, 7. causing them to attain ultimate truth, 8. causing them to sever delusion, 9. causing them to accomplish the causal stage, 10. revealing the fruit to cause them to turn toward it.
