Eighth, regarding the perfection of virtues: in the Initial Teaching, one accomplishes the causes of pure virtues, obtains the retribution of an Iron Wheel-Turning King, and is also able to enter the ten understandings and so on. In the Final Teaching, having perfected the stage of the ten abodes, one is able to see the Dharmakāya Buddha to a small degree, manifest the eight phases of attaining awakening, and so on. In the Perfect [Teaching], this permeates and accomplishes all subsequent stages: in terms of cause, one attains Samantabhadra's three karmas pervading the dharmadhātu; in terms of fruition, one attains samyaksaṃbuddha throughout worlds as numerous as fine dust motes. This is as explained in the chapter 'Bhadraśrī'. Second, regarding clarifying the central theme of the chapter: it takes the ten profound meanings as its central theme, and has understanding and practice perfected within faith as its objective.
