First, explaining the title: According to the Sanskrit text, it is titled the 'Chapter on Completely Pure Practice'. In Asvabhāva's Commentary on the Mahāyānasaṃgraha, it is named the Sūtra of Pure Conduct. That the three karmas are without fault is called 'pure'; when the mind gives rise to vows, it corresponds to 'practice'; practice according with universal Dharma is called 'complete'—this is a karmadhāraya compound. Moreover, 'pure' is principle and 'practice' is wisdom; the non-obstruction of principle and wisdom is 'complete'—this is a tatpuruṣa compound. Furthermore, vows are that which purifies, and practice is that which is purified, causing practice to be radiant and clean; corresponding to the nature is called 'complete', because these are the vows and practices of Samantabhadra. Moreover, vows being free of defilement is called 'pure', and the vows themselves are practice, hence called 'pure practice'.
