第七明入定意者，略有四意：一為證法令說決定故。論云「何故入三昧？顯示此法非思量境界故。」二為受加。佛力加持，此為器故。論云「何故加？以得此三昧故。」三成軌則。諸有說法，要審而說，方可信故。四表示法。以聞此定，名解彼法故。此七定中，初五具四；第七唯三，以行法依解不待加故；第八唯二，以佛無新證、無受加故。

Seventh, clarifying the intention of entering concentration: there are briefly four intentions: first, in order to realize the Dharma and make the teaching definitive. A treatise says: "Why enter samādhi? To show that this dharma is not an object of discursive thought." Second, in order to receive empowerment. The empowerment of the Buddha's power makes this [person] a vessel. A treatise says: "Why empower? Because of having attained this samādhi." Third, to establish an exemplary model. Whenever there is preaching of the Dharma, one must examine it before preaching; only then can it be trusted. Fourth, to express the Dharma. Because upon hearing this concentration, one understands that dharma by name. Among these seven concentrations, the first five possess all four [intentions]; the seventh has only three, because the practice of the Dharma relies on understanding and does not wait for empowerment; the eighth has only two, because the Buddha has no new realization and does not receive empowerment.
