四能加之佛名數者，初會之中，有十方世界海諸佛。第三會，十方各過千佛世界塵數剎外，有千佛世界塵數諸佛，同名法慧。第四會，十方各過萬佛世界塵數剎外，有萬佛世界塵數諸佛，同名功德林。第五會，十方各過百萬佛剎塵數剎外，有百萬佛剎塵數諸佛，同名金剛幢。第六會，十方各過十億佛土塵數剎外，有十億佛土塵數諸佛，同名金剛藏。解云：欲表三賢十聖位相漸增，故令佛數從小至多。皆同所加菩薩名者，《地論》釋云「令彼菩薩聞諸如來同己名已，增踊悅故。」又彼諸位各說如佛名之法故，不異名加。

Fourth, concerning the names and numbers of the Buddhas capable of empowering: in the first assembly, there are Buddhas of the ocean of worlds in the ten directions. In the third assembly, beyond lands as numerous as the dust motes of a thousand Buddha-worlds in each of the ten directions, there are Buddhas as numerous as the dust motes of a thousand Buddha-worlds, all identically named Dharmamati. In the fourth assembly, beyond lands as numerous as the dust motes of ten thousand Buddha-worlds in each of the ten directions, there are Buddhas as numerous as the dust motes of ten thousand Buddha-worlds, all identically named Guṇavana. In the fifth assembly, beyond lands as numerous as the dust motes of a million Buddha-lands in each of the ten directions, there are Buddhas as numerous as the dust motes of a million Buddha-lands, all identically named Vajradhvaja. In the sixth assembly, beyond lands as numerous as the dust motes of a billion Buddha-lands in each of the ten directions, there are Buddhas as numerous as the dust motes of a billion Buddha-lands, all identically named Vajragarbha. It is explained: wishing to symbolize that the stages of the three ranks of worthies and ten ranks of sages gradually increase, the number of Buddhas is made to go from fewer to more. As for their all sharing the same name as the bodhisattva being empowered, the *Daśabhūmika-śāstra* explains: 'It causes that bodhisattva, having heard that the Tathāgatas share his own name, to increase in joy.' Furthermore, because those stages each expound Dharma conforming to the Buddhas' names, the empowerment is not given under different names.
