Second is the result of the station. In the initial [section on] pliancy, the text also has four [parts]: First is the practice of pliancy. Within its essence, there are also the dharma, the simile, and the application. Within the dharma, there are also three: first, the conditions; next, from "in that" downward, the capacity to refine practice. As for "protecting and upholding the true Dharma," because the practice of expedient means is fulfilled and protects others, he is able to be a great teacher in the triple realm; hence he is able to protect [it]. Third, from "benefiting sentient beings" downward, explains that which is refined and purified. The Treatise states that the explanation of the name of this stage should be known here, which means taking the sūtra text as the explanation of the name: benefiting sentient beings is the superior practice within existence, and the purity of patience with phenomena is the expedient wisdom within emptiness—these two are the practices. "Roots of goodness increase and surpass even more" clarifies that effort has reached its ultimate; this is the meaning of "Far-Reaching." In the simile, gold is a simile for realization wisdom, which is the root of goodness such as faith. Being "inlaid with various jewels" means that the effort in the practice of expedient means for all factors conducive to awakening has been fulfilled, thus causing the former roots of goodness to become increasingly superior. Second, from "Sons of the Buddha, it is like the light of the sun" downward, clarifies the purity of instructive wisdom, with the simile first and then the application. In the simile, the meaning of light is as in the previous stage; however, this sunlight is ablaze, and thus surpasses that moonlight. For moonlight is cool and refreshing like prajñā, while sunlight's function is vast like expedient means. The rest can be understood.
