Eighth, regarding the brāhmaṇa Śivarāgra (Utmost Tranquility), the good friend of illusory-wisdom sincere vows and speech: in conferring the teaching, he first identifies the name. There are two meanings: first, being without falsity from beginning to end. As from the initial aspiration forming a great vow, one's action must accord with one's words, never going against prior speech. Second, following one's practice without deceit, as when the ṛṣi of patience said, “I have no anger,” causing his body to be restored. Second, from “In the past...” onwards, he explains the name by means of function, explaining the previous two meanings in order. When false and deceptive speech ceases, it is called tranquil. Tranquility is pure practice. Words and deeds are the hinge and axle of a noble person; if one can be sincere and honest, this can serve as a model; hence the city is named Dharma. Directing him to the next, mentioning 'Wondrous-Mind Flower Gate': the wondrous-mind flower is the sumanā flower, which exists beside that city gate. It is also in southern India; he should receive their instruction, obtaining the flower of the wondrous mind of seeking friends and the superior causes. The young boy represents pure wisdom; through wisdom, ten thousand virtues are born. The young girl represents pure compassion; compassion is the root of manifold virtues. Because compassion and wisdom guide each other, the two meet together. At the end of the karmic gathering, these two are perfected. Soon he will see Maitreya and succeed to the Buddha stage. (Hereafter enters the seventy-seventh fascicle).
