Second, as for explaining the title: based on the Sanskrit text, translating it fully, it should be called the "Dharmālokamukha Chapter" ("Illumination of the Dharma Chapter"). In all, it has four meanings: First, Dharmamati's wisdom clearly illuminates the practices for progressing and advancing in terms of both the expressive and the expressed; thus it illuminates the dharmas to be known. Second, "illuminating" is the expressive, because it is capable of revealing practice; "dharma" is the expressed, because it can serve as a model. This then combines the expression and the purport into a single designation: because there are dharmas that are illuminated, and because it is the illumination of dharmas, it admits of both interpretations. Third, "illuminating" is the functioning of wisdom, while "dharma" is noumenon, practice, and fruit; when object and wisdom are spoken of together, both are the expressed. "The illumination of dharmas" and "the dharmas of illumination" are genitive tatpuruṣa compounds. Fourth, the essence of the practices to be cultivated is free from ignorance, so it is also solely the expressed. There are dharmas possessing illumination, and dharma is itself illumination; this admits of both bahuvrīhi and karmadhāraya compounds.
