Third, as for the central theme and purpose: illuminating the Dharma differs, having briefly four kinds, namely: teaching, noumenon, practice, and fruit. Tracing the teaching to awaken to the noumenon, observing the noumenon to give rise to practice, and practice being completed to attain the fruit—in all cases, the former is the central theme and the latter is the purpose. Furthermore, all four of these are the central theme, while accomplishing the subsequent stations and accomplishing superior virtues constitute the purpose.
