Regarding the Commentary's line: 'Second, that very flower petal universally pervades the dharmadhātu without destroying its original position,' and so forth: this is the second gate, the Gate of the Sovereign and Unobstructed Breadth and Narrowness. It has two parts: first, directly explaining breadth and narrowness; second, reconciling and synthesizing purity and mixture. The former has three parts: first, explaining directly; second, citing scriptural proofs; third, distinguishing the numerical propositions. Now for the first: the first two lines set forth the characteristics of breadth and narrowness. The line stating, 'because having parts is itself having no parts, and having no parts is itself having parts,' reveals its rationale. Because the flower is a phenomenon, its boundary and limits are distinct; yet being identical with the true nature, it has no boundary or limits, thereby becoming boundlessly broad, because phenomena are like principle. 'Having no parts is itself having parts' clarifies that breadth is itself narrowness, because it does not destroy characteristics.
