From the Commentary's "Just as when looking from the one toward the many there is depending and supporting…" onward, the second part draws the analogy of looking from the many toward the one. Within this there are two: first, concluding the preceding, which is adducing that which serves as the analogy; second, from "looking from the many" onward, introducing what follows, which is the direct explanation. Question: Since within the previous gateway, first clarifying the one supporting and the many depending, and then drawing the analogy of the many supporting and the one depending, the meaning was already complete, how can there be this looking from the many toward the one again? Answer: There is a profound intent in this. That is, in the previous looking from the one toward the many: as the aspect of supporting, the one can encompass the many; as the aspect of depending, the one can enter the many. Although there is support upon the many, taking only the one as that which can enter, both therefore belong to looking from the one toward the many. Hence, wishing to explain the subsequent section of looking from the many toward the one, the Commentary first concludes the preceding section, saying: "Just as when looking from the one toward the many there is depending and supporting," and so on. "Having depending" is precisely the preceding support by the many, thus forming the dependence of the one. "Having supporting" is precisely the preceding efficacy of the one, serving as the support for the many. The phrase "entirely efficacious" completes the above "one supporting." The phrase "powerless" completes the above "one depending." The phrase "constantly contains the many within itself" means the one being efficacious serves as support, being able to encompass the many. The phrase "subtly enters itself into the many" means the one being powerless serves as depending, thus entering the many. Therefore both of these lines belong to looking from the one toward the many.
