17.5

疏「此上七解」下，二會昔義也。復會前七師，融成四句：一即第七師，三即前六師，二四義加。二唯正宗者，意取悟入顯理為正宗故。故河西道郎云：「若因初分以得悟，則初分為正。若因後分以得悟，則後分非傍。」即斯義也。

Regarding the Commentary's "These above seven interpretations" onwards: second, synthesizing past interpretations. It further reconciles the previous seven masters, harmonizing them into a fourfold proposition: the first is the seventh master; the third refers to the previous six masters; the second and fourth are added through their meanings. The second positing only the central doctrine is because the intent takes awakening and realizing to reveal the principle as the central doctrine. Hence Dao Lang of Hexi said: "If one attains awakening through the initial division, then the initial division is the central doctrine. If one attains awakening through the latter division, then the latter division is not secondary." This is precisely the meaning.
