17.70

「『佛聖師子王，阿難是佛子，
師子座處坐，觀眾無有佛。
如是大德眾，無佛失威神，
如夜無月時，虛空不清淨。
如大智人說，汝佛子當演，
何處最初說，今汝當布現。』

“‘The Buddha, the holy Lion King, / has Ānanda as the Buddha's son.
Sitting upon the lion throne, / he gazes upon an assembly without a Buddha.
Such an assembly of great virtue, / lacking a Buddha, loses majestic spiritual power,
just as when the night lacks the moon, / the open sky is not pure.
As spoken by the person of great wisdom, / you, son of the Buddha, should now expound:
where was it first spoken? / You must now reveal and present it.’
