17.81

疏「略為三解」下，第三解釋。此上總標三義，即為三別。三解之中，初之一解徵初遠近，近在一念；答初通局，局初五會。第二解，初在二七之後而通九會。第三解，取前師即一念之初，取後第二師通於九會。就初解中三：初正明時分、二遮伏難、三會論文。初中明九會，分為三時，非總初也。

Regarding the commentary's 'There are briefly three explanations' and what follows: the third part provides explanations. The above generally indicated three meanings, which constitute three distinctions. Among the three explanations, the first explanation inquires into the distance of the 'initial', placing it as near as a single thought-moment; answering whether the 'initial' is pervasive or limited, it limits it to the first five assemblies. The second explanation places the 'initial' after the second seven-day period and makes it pervasive across the nine assemblies. The third explanation adopts the single thought-moment of the initial from the first master, and adopts the pervasiveness across the nine assemblies from the second master. Within the first explanation, there are three parts: first, directly clarifying the time periods; second, warding off implicit objections; third, harmonizing with the treatise text. In the first, it clarifies that the nine assemblies are divided into three times, not entirely belonging to the initial.
