On the Commentary's "Śacī and the celestial drum produce sound mindlessly": this corroborates the second meaning, non-discrimination. Here there are two similes: First, Śacī: in the "Ten Resignations" Chapter, on the resignation to resonance, it says: "Like the asura maiden Śacī, consort of Śakra Devendra, who emits hundreds of thousands of kinds of sounds from a single sound, yet has no mental thought to cause them to be produced in this way. The bodhisattva-mahāsattva is also just like this: entering the non-discriminative realm, accomplishing skillful sounds according to category, constantly turning the wheel of the Dharma in limitless worlds." Celestial drum: in the third on verbal karma in the "Manifestation" Chapter, the simile of the celestial drum awakening. Concluding, it says: "Disciples of the Buddha! That celestial drum's sound has no master and no creator, no arising and no cessation, yet it can benefit immeasurable sentient beings." Below, having finished applying it to the dharma, it concludes: "Yet the Tathāgata's voice does not abide in a locality and has no verbal expression." This is the meaning of producing mindlessly. Also, as in the "Subordinate Marks" Chapter, where the celestial drum preaches the Dharma for the devaputras of the hells: "O devaputras! Just as I say 'I' yet do not cling to an 'I' or to 'what belongs to an I', all Buddhas are also just like this: they declare themselves to be Buddhas, yet do not cling to an 'I' or to 'what belongs to an I'." This is precisely the meaning of mindlessness. The various treatises all say: "The Buddha's body is like a maṇi jewel, manifesting colors mindlessly; the Buddha's mouth is like a celestial drum, producing sounds mindlessly." These are all the meaning of non-discrimination.
