22.36

疏「精進」中，初名。二「以勤」下，出體。通三精進，即善十一中之一數也。三「亦有」下，辯相。「被甲」即大誓願，「攝善」即方便進趣，「利樂」即勤化眾生。四「初句」下，釋文。言「通前二」者，勤修二字，故是攝善。多劫海言，即是被甲。被甲相隱，故引論釋。

In the commentary on "vigor": first is the name. Second, from "taking diligence" onward identifies the essence. Pervading the three types of vigor, it is one item among the eleven wholesome factors. Third, from "also has" onward discerns the characteristics. "Donning armor" is the great vow; "embracing the wholesome" is advancing through skillful means; "benefiting and delighting" is diligently transforming sentient beings. Fourth, from "the first line" onward explains the text. Saying that it "pervades the former two": the two words "diligently cultivate" therefore constitute embracing the wholesome. The phrase "ocean of many kalpas" is donning armor. Because the characteristic of donning armor is hidden, the treatise is cited to explain it.
