23.36

疏「況所望不同」者，上行通能所、境唯局所，已是不同。設同取悲智行，約所行以用悲智境，約能行以用悲智。如人望子名父、望父名子，一人二用，豈相濫耶？

Regarding the commentary's "Furthermore, what they are viewed in relation to is not the same": above, practice applies to both agent and object, while realm is strictly confined to object; they are already dissimilar. Even supposing that both take the practice of compassion and wisdom, viewing it from what is practiced takes compassion and wisdom as the object, while viewing it from the agent of practice takes compassion and wisdom as the agent. Just as a man viewed in relation to his son is called 'father', and viewed in relation to his father is called 'son'—one person with two functions, how could they be confused with each other?
