24.17

疏「而其本意正表義耳」者，以十玄十對，凡舉一事必具十玄，凡一玄門必收十對，泛明一法一一圓收故。若作教者但是傍來，然其本意唯表義耳。

Regarding the commentary's phrase “yet its original intention is precisely to symbolize the meaning”: taking the ten profundities and the ten pairs, whenever one phenomenon is cited it necessarily possesses the ten profundities, and whenever one profound gate is cited it necessarily subsumes the ten pairs, generally showing that one phenomenon completely encompasses them one by one. If it were treated as doctrine, it would only be secondary, whereas its original intention is solely to symbolize the meaning.
