25.23

疏「九通攝三種世間等」者，如八地中十身，即三世間故。謂眾生身、國土身等，已見玄文。言「即如空身而示普身于何不具」者，會釋經文。謂經文但云身相如空等，何有十身之義？故今釋云：如虛空言，即十身中虛空身也。八地之中十身相作，今云示現普身。則兩重十身皆悉具矣。如下經云「虛空身作眾生身、作國土身、作業報身、作聲聞身、作緣覺身、作菩薩身、作如來身。」是為虛空示餘九身。其如來身上，既具菩提身、願身、化身、法身、智身等，則有百身千身，一一類身復各攝多，故云示現普身等一切也。又如虛空言，含法身智身，即如真身。即真而現，何不具矣。

On the commentary's "The ninth universally subsumes the three kinds of realms, etc.": this is like the ten bodies in the eighth bhūmi, which are precisely the three realms. That is, the sentient-being body, the land body, etc., which have already appeared in the profound preface. As for "being precisely the body like space yet manifesting the universal body, what does it not possess?": this synthesizes and explains the sūtra text. That is, the sūtra text merely says that the bodily characteristics are like space, etc.; how could it have the meaning of the ten bodies? Therefore it now explains: the words "like space" are precisely the space-body among the ten bodies. Within the eighth bhūmi the ten bodies mutually become one another; now it says "manifesting the universal body," so both tiers of ten bodies are completely present. As a subsequent sūtra passage says: "The space-body acts as the sentient-being body, acts as the land body, acts as the karmic-retribution body, acts as the śrāvaka body, acts as the pratyekabuddha body, acts as the bodhisattva body, acts as the Tathāgata body." This is the space-body manifesting the remaining nine bodies. On that Tathāgata body, since it is already endowed with the bodhi-body, vow-body, transformation-body, Dharma-body, wisdom-body, etc., there are then a hundred bodies and a thousand bodies, each single type of body again individually subsuming many; hence it says "manifesting the universal body, etc., all of them." Furthermore, the words "like space" contain the dharmakāya and jñānakāya, which are like the true body. Manifesting from the true itself, what would it not possess?
