Regarding the commentary's "However, the Prakaraṇāryaśāsana, fascicle one, clarifies that the trichiliocosm is destroyed by the three calamities": this is the meaning of the Kanding ji. The above is the treatise text, hence explaining the trichiliocosm according to the treatise. The meaning says: such a trichiliocosm is destroyed by the three calamities, namely water, fire, and wind. Thus one knows that below the First Dhyāna is what the Kanding adopted the meaning to explain, holding that the fire calamity destroys the First Dhyāna, the water calamity destroys the Second Dhyāna, and the wind calamity destroys the Third Dhyāna; clearly knowing that speaking of the small thousand-world counts only the First Dhyāna. If counting the medium thousand-world, it counts the Second Dhyāna, because the measure of the Second Dhyāna is equal to the medium thousand-world. If counting the great thousand-world, it counts the Third Dhyāna, because the measure of the Third Dhyāna is equal to the great thousand-world. Thus one knows that there are a hundred kotis of First Dhyānas, one million Second Dhyānas, one thousand Third Dhyānas, and only one Fourth Dhyāna. However, if speaking of measure, that is the aforementioned explanation; the textual proof cited does not establish the meaning, because the text states that the trichiliocosm is entirely admitted to be destroyed by the three calamities. If the medium thousand-world counts the Second Dhyāna, the Second Dhyāna would not be destroyed by the fire calamity, and so forth; contemplate this. The correct doctrine is as before, already explained by citing the Kośa and the Nyāyānusāra.
