Regarding the Commentary's 'Tenth, benefiting the present and the future': the text also has two parts: first, it picks up what precedes to discuss generally; second, from 'This also' downward, it opens the headings to explain specifically. It is further divided into three parts: First, divided in terms of time into two, which is readily understood. Next, from 'This benefit is further twofold' downward, it is divided in terms of practice into two. Afterward, from 'Moreover, this benefit' downward, it forms a distinction in contrast to what precedes. In the second, the Commentary says 'it will ultimately never be digested' and so forth, where 'and so forth' encompasses the remaining sentences. The remaining sentences say: 'It must pierce his body and emerge to the outside. Why? Because a diamond does not dwell together with the impurity of a fleshly body. Planted before the Tathāgata, even a small root of virtue is also like this: it must pierce the body of afflictions of all conditioned practices and pass through to the unconditioned place of ultimate wisdom. Why? Because this small root of virtue does not dwell together with the afflictions of conditioned practices.'
