31.38

疏「上三義中」下，第三對問會通。唯焰無性故不相知，答直問也。能依種種所依無二，答懷疑也。即事同真故不相違，答設難也。在義易了，故云準知。若賢首意：問者據其初義，答者用其後二。亦是一理。是則初義兩家共用，下當重明。

Regarding the commentary’s text from “Among the three meanings above” downward, the third part matches the questions and reconciles them. That only the flame lacks a nature and therefore they do not know one another answers the direct question. That what is supported is diverse while what supports is non-dual answers the harborer of doubts. That phenomena, being identical to the true, do not contradict one another answers the poser of objections. As this is easy to understand in terms of meaning, it says “it should be known by analogy.” In Xianshou’s view, the questioner relies on the first meaning, while the respondent employs the latter two. This is also one coherent principle. Thus, the first meaning is shared by both parties, which will be clarified again below.
