The commentary's "Second, explaining that only by virtue of not knowing one another do the various kinds come to be" is the third section, explaining the third cause among the aforementioned four causes. Merely because the two words "by means of this" in the verse are taken differently in meaning, the text of a single verse applies to two senses, taking the text entirely differently. In the previous sense of perfuming, the two words "by means of this" refer entirely to the first half [of the verse] as the cause of cycling. Now, to reveal the lack of intrinsic nature, the first half of the verse is the fruit of cycling, so the commentary explains the first half as "producing the various kinds." Thus, the two words "by means of this" refer to the meaning of not knowing one another explained by the dharmas and metaphors of the preceding five verses as the cause of cycling.
