疏「通說則此二皆能防外養內」者，諦察法理，養內德也。進防懈怠眾魔不入，防外敵也。

Regarding the Commentary's line: "Speaking broadly, these two are both able to guard against the external and nurture the internal": closely examining the principles of phenomena nurtures internal virtue; advancing to guard against indolence so that the various māras do not enter defends against external enemies.
