[Regarding] the fourth bodhisattva: regarding the Commentary's 'The first two lines [concern] the tortuous path tending toward quiescence, straying from the single direct path': straying from the single direct path is what both ordinary beings and followers of the small vehicle are deluded about. The tortuous path tending toward quiescence applies solely to the small vehicle. If one transcends with grand magnificence, without passing through the two vehicles, and swiftly achieves right awakening, it is called the direct path. If one first realizes the two vehicles and only later enters the Great [Vehicle], it is called the tortuous path. 'Tortuous path' refers to its roundabout course; 'tending toward quiescence' clarifies its stagnation. When entering [nirvāṇa] without remainder, the provisional teaching holds they do not return; whereas in the real teaching, they ultimately give rise to the intention, though it inevitably takes eighty thousand [eons], because they are intoxicated with the wine of samādhi.
