38.3

疏「然地經總句」下，彈古人。古人亦取下論立其三義，而云一勝善決定、二因善決定、三不怯弱善決定。故今破云：彼中總句是決定故，別句為六決定。今經總句是住處，即合別句為三住處；但取類例如何，一向學彼，則好學太過也。此三義理，應尋下十地經疏。

Regarding the commentary's phrase "However, the general phrase of the Bhūmi Sūtra..." and following: this refutes predecessors. Predecessors also drew upon the treatise below to establish their three meanings, saying: 1. superior good determination, 2. causal good determination, and 3. non-cowardly good determination. Therefore it is now refuted thus: in that text, the general phrase is "determination", so the specific phrases constitute six determinations. In the present sūtra, the general phrase is "dwelling place", which consequently combines the specific phrases into three dwelling places; how can one merely seize an analogy and blindly copy that? It is studying too excessively. The doctrine of these three meanings should be sought in the commentary on the *Daśabhūmika Sūtra* below.
