Regarding the commentary's: "Second, horizontally in terms of what is known," and so forth: First, matching principle, it is inexhaustible. Second, no dharma is not fathomed; hence it is called exhaustible. Below, it cites the first fascicle of the Lotus Sūtra and the third fascicle of the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa, where the treatise explains that the Buddha is an omniscient person (sarvajña). It first objects: Because the objects of knowledge are limitless, there is no omniscient person. The reply states: Cognition is also limitless, like a large box having a large lid; he is an omniscient person. The box is an analogy for what is known; the lid is an analogy for the knowing subject.
