Regarding the commentary's: "Esoteric intention of transformation," this means the words are the same while the meanings differ. It is like the single word "gau" having four realities and nine meanings. Or like the single phrase "impermanence": the Hīnayāna takes arising and ceasing as its meaning, whereas the Mahāyāna takes non-arising and non-ceasing as its meaning. In the imaginary nature (parikalpita-svabhāva) there is nothing that can be permanent; in the dependent nature (paratantra-svabhāva) arising and ceasing are spoken of; in the perfected nature (pariniṣpanna-svabhāva) transformation is the meaning. Because defilement and purity are its meanings, it is called transformation. As for "esoteric intention," it is like what was cited earlier from the Mahāyānasaṃgraha: "explaining different dharmas with different expressions," and so forth. Saying "that is, like the first line" on down directly points to the first line as the text following the meaning: while the words for one and many are the same, there are three meanings.
