Regarding the commentary's statement, "Being above, do not be overbearing": the Book of Changes, under the hexagram Qian, states: "Top nine: the overbearing dragon has regrets." This means that when extreme arrogance is reached, sorrow and regret arrive; Jie and Zhou are examples of this. The Classic of Filial Piety states: "When one does not quarrel among one's peers, there is no fear of arms." Peers (chou) means companions or fellows. Regarding the commentary's statement, "The bodhisattva's entering samādhi is identical to the Buddha's, not being excessively bright so as to indulge in its relish": this corresponds to the above "having no daytime feast inside without cause"; daytime feasting indulges in its relish, and brightness corresponds to daytime above. "Excessively bright" means that wisdom increases while samādhi is deficient. The statement "not being sluggish so as to stagnate in an object" corresponds to the above "having no nighttime sleeping outside without cause"; sluggishness corresponds to night, and stagnating in an object corresponds to sleeping outside. "No obscurity where its relish is not obtained" corresponds to "feasting in a side chamber". "Correct samādhi not altering one's mind" corresponds to "sleeping in the central quarters".
