Regarding the commentary's statement, "Second, because the bodhisattva's practice arises from conceptualization and thought": this has two meanings. First, it must depend on conceptualization and thought to be able to give rise to practice, just as a dream arises from thought. Therefore, in the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa, things heard and seen mostly rely on contemplation, and because of thinking, one dreams of them. Second, "one has not yet attained great awakening": the great awakening is Buddhahood. Spoken from a proximate perspective, prior to the eighth stage it is still dream practice; the eighth stage is awakening. Moreover, in the eighth stage, because avidyā is not yet exhausted, it is also a dream realm. Only the Buddha alone has eternally severed dream-like false thoughts and concepts, with no further great aggregates, realms, and bases remaining; therefore, the Tathāgata alone is called the Greatly Awakened One.
