47.40

疏「或俱高俱下」者，略成四句。佛化為佛，本迹俱高；菩薩化為菩薩，本迹俱下。就菩薩中以位相望，亦有高下可知。疏「上亦供行因」者，即上釋權化所由。以如來藏等力故，令供行至，故為所因。

Regarding the commentary statement, "Or both high and both low": this briefly forms four propositions. When a Buddha manifests as a Buddha, the root and trace are both high; when a bodhisattva manifests as a bodhisattva, the root and trace are both low. Within bodhisattvas, looking at one another in terms of stages, there is also high and low, as can be known. Regarding the commentary statement, "The above is also the cause of the practice of offering": this is the explanation above of the reason for provisional manifestations. Because of the power of the tathāgatagarbha and so forth, it causes the practice of offering to reach; hence it is the cause.
