Regarding the commentary's statement, "and below, the giving of marrow, are both as explained in the fourteenth [fascicle] of the *Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa*": the treatise states, "Prince Candraprabha went out on an excursion. A leper saw him, stopped his chariot, and said: 'My body is afflicted with severe illness, experiencing great pain and distress. Does the prince alone make merry in his pleasure outing? With great kindness and pity, please save and treat me.' Hearing this, the prince asked the physicians. The physicians said: 'One must obtain the blood and marrow of a person who from birth has grown up without anger, smear it [on him] and drink it; only thus can he be cured.' The prince reflected: 'Even if such a person existed, they would cling to life and begrudge their body; how could it be obtained? Aside from my own body, there is nowhere to obtain it.' He then ordered a caṇḍāla to cut away his flesh, break his bones, and extract the marrow to smear on the sick person, and gave him his blood to drink."
