5.19

疏「然施設不同不應一準」者，三遮難也。恐有難言：若今佛說即表微細，餘應是麁。此言超出，前應繫著。故此遮云：聖教施設千差萬別，各取一表不應剋定。受加表於同說，亦非麁非著；佛說表細顯超，亦不礙於同說。約表小異，大旨全同，何不亡言？觸途生滯，故云不應一準。

When the commentary says, 'However, the provisions differ and should not be taken as a single rule,' this is the third part, warding off objections. Fearing there might be an objection saying: 'If what the Buddha now speaks represents the subtle, the rest must be coarse; if this is said to transcend, the former must be attached,' it therefore wards it off by saying: the holy teachings' provisions have a thousand differences and ten thousand distinctions, each taking one expression, so one should not rigidly fix them. Receiving empowerment represents identical preaching, yet is neither coarse nor attached; the Buddha speaking represents the subtle and reveals transcendence, yet does not obstruct identical preaching. In terms of expression there are minor differences, but the grand purport is completely the same; why not forget words? Meeting the path one produces stagnation, which is why it says 'they should not be taken as a single rule.'
