Regarding the commentary's phrase "What is impermanent is precisely the preceding non-abiding": non-abiding is from the treatise, while the sūtra has the word "impermanent". This inquires into the essence and characteristics of impermanence, because the sūtra below says "instantaneous" and so forth. Regarding the commentary's phrase "The treatise states: Relying on the power of the body's changing phases, three kinds of suffering arise": the inner retribution's shifting is called "the body's changing phases". From contact, feeling arises; from feeling, suffering arises—this is already impermanence, not to mention that the three sufferings further arise; hence it is impermanence. Because suffering is generated through change, changing is the causal power.
