Regarding the commentary's "not consenting to the joy that has already arisen": the words 'not consenting' are the meaning of equanimity. Regarding the commentary's "impartial, upright, and abiding unshakeably": the three grades of equanimity's characteristics are identical to the Vijñaptimātratāsiddhi: equality is the first, because it is free from sinking and restlessness; uprightness is the second, because it is not timid before defilement; abiding unshakeably is the last, which is quiescent abiding. That is what the Vijñaptimātratāsiddhi above states: "Effortless abiding, not forgetting and clearly remembering, because this is the meaning of mindfulness." Master Huiyuan explains: "Mindful of the previous fault of joy, one guards the mind on a single object."
