疏「此四加行」下，第二彰其所因，因前正勤生故。故前云欲生，此名欲定；前云勤精進，此為勤定，前發心中開出策心持心故，有心觀二定。疏「標舉所修助伴自體」者，欲為助伴，定為自體故。

Regarding the Commentary's statement: "These four preliminary applications" downward: the second part clarifies their cause, because they arise due to the preceding right efforts. Therefore previously it was said "desire arises," and here it is named "the absorption of desire"; previously it was said "diligent effort," and this is "the absorption of diligence"; because from the previous generating of mind, exerting the mind and holding the mind are opened out, there are the two absorptions of mind and contemplation. Regarding the Commentary's statement: "Setting forth that which is cultivated, the companions, and the essence": desire is the companion, and absorption is the essence.
