Regarding the Commentary's 'Next, in the analogy, the wheel-turning king analogizes the seventh ground, relinquishing the path of effort according to one's portion': this briefly presents the essentials; this is the meaning of purity of practice, distinguished from the purity of karmic retribution obtained by a Brahmā king. However, according to the application [of the analogy], the two analogies each have five clauses, as will be known below. As for saying that the Brahmā king travels across a thousand realms, this means one thousand sets of four continents. According to the Abhidharmakośa-bhāṣya, the measure of the Second Dhyāna equals a small thousand worlds; the Third Dhyāna equals a medium thousand worlds; and the Fourth Dhyāna equals a great thousand worlds. The Mahāvibhāṣā has the view that the measure of the First Dhyāna itself equals a small thousand worlds; thus, being born in the Brahmā realm, he can travel across a thousand worlds, which can be understood.
