73.53

疏「約理事相望則無差別為細」等者，由標云「喻麁細大小二對」，及經合中云「無差別中入定差別法中起」等，故為此釋。於中，先釋麁細、後釋大小。前中有二意，取義雖異，麁細是同。前則理細事麁，後則總麁別細。別於一一事中而入理故，則後對唯約理說。

Regarding the commentary's statement: "Viewed in terms of phenomena and principle compared to each other, non-differentiation is subtle..." and so forth: because it was marked as "the two pairs of coarse and subtle, large and small as metaphors," and in the sūtra's correlation it states "entering samādhi in non-differentiation and emerging in differentiated dharmas" and so forth, this explanation is made. Herein, it first explains coarse and subtle, and then explains large and small. In the former, there are two ideas; although the senses taken differ, coarse and subtle are the same. In the former, principle is subtle and phenomena are coarse; in the latter, the general is coarse and the specific is subtle. Because one enters principle specifically within each individual phenomenon, the latter pair is explained purely in terms of principle.
