79.19

疏「先成器界」等者，《俱舍》十二云「壞從獄不生，至後器都盡。成劫從風起，至地獄初生。」論釋云「謂成劫中，初一劫起器世間，後十九劫起有情漸住。壞中，後一劫壞於器界，前十九劫有情漸捨。二十中劫，初劫唯減，後劫唯增。然此二時等中，十八成壞時量，法爾先成必在後壞。」

Regarding the Commentary's statement, "The receptacle world forms first," and so forth: the Kośa, fascicle twelve, says: "Destruction begins when none are born in the hells, / up until the end when the receptacle is completely exhausted. / The kalpa of formation begins from the arising of wind, / up until the initial birth in the hells." The commentary on the treatise explains: "During the kalpa of formation, in the first kalpa the receptacle world arises, and during the subsequent nineteen kalpas sentient beings arise and gradually dwell. During destruction, in the final kalpa the receptacle world is destroyed, and during the preceding nineteen kalpas sentient beings are gradually abandoned. In the twenty intermediate kalpas, the first kalpa only decreases, and the final kalpa only increases. However, in these two periods, etc., the temporal duration of formation and destruction in the eighteen [kalpas between them is identical]: by the nature of things, that which forms first must be destroyed last."
