Regarding the commentary's statement, "Between this and the causes and conditions for generating the mind in the preceding inherent practice, there are mutual reflections and omissions": in that sūtra there are ten: 1. seeing the Bhagavat's dignified and upright appearance; 2. perfection of bodily marks; 3. being delightful for people to behold; 4. being difficult to encounter; 5. having great majestic power; 6. or seeing supernatural feet; 7. or hearing prophecies; 8. or listening to admonitions; 9. or seeing sentient beings suffering intense torments; 10. or hearing the Tathāgata's vast Buddha-dharma, generating bodhicitta, and seeking all-knowledge. Now, regarding the statement "reflections and omissions": the first five [here] concern descending to transform sentient beings, which corresponds to the ninth [there]. Seeing sentient beings suffering intense torments corresponds exactly to the second [here]. Thus, that [text] is concise, while this [text] is extensive. That single meaning contains these five, which this [text] captures by reflection. The latter five [here] concern ascending to seek the Buddha path; the sixth and eighth subsume the first six of that [text], so this is concise while that is extensive. The seventh corresponds to the seventh and eighth there, prophecy and admonition; the ninth and tenth correspond to the tenth there, vast Buddha-dharma. Therefore it is said to have "reflections and omissions."
