89.19

疏十七「麼字」者，別譯為莽麼，字却為第十八。《大品》云「麼，即悟一切法我所執性不可得。」「我慢高舉」下會經。《智論》云「若聞麼字，知一切法離我我所義，以麼迦此言我所故。」

Regarding the commentary's "Seventeen: the syllable ma": the alternate translation renders it mama, which is instead the eighteenth syllable. The Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā says: "Ma means awakening to the fact that grasping at what belongs to self among all phenomena cannot be apprehended." From "the arrogance of conceit aloft" down reconciles with the sūtra. The Dazhidulun says: "Hearing the syllable ma, one knows that all phenomena are free from the meaning of self and what belongs to self, because here mamakāra means what belongs to self."
