90.20

疏「三有三偈」下，約經即住於佛住。疏中先依無著立功德名，後「謂住佛」下即無性釋。無性生起云「為欲得上無住涅槃」，故次明之即是恩德，謂佛雖遍聖天梵住而空，大悲偏善安住。由住空故不住生死，由住悲故不住涅槃，一切時中觀所調伏，故隨物欲或見不同。

Regarding the commentary's remark, "Third, there are three verses" and so on: in terms of the sūtra, it is abiding in the Buddha's dwelling. In the commentary, it first establishes the name of the virtue according to Asaṅga; subsequent to "meaning abiding in the Buddha..." is Asabhāva's explanation. Asabhāva's transitional explanation states, "in order to wish to attain the superior non-abiding nirvāṇa"; hence clarifying it next constitutes the virtue of grace. This means that although the Buddha is pervasive throughout the holy, celestial, and brahma abodes yet empty, he resides with particular excellence in great compassion. By abiding in emptiness he does not abide in saṃsāra; by abiding in compassion he does not abide in nirvāṇa. At all times he observes those who are to be tamed; hence, in accordance with the desires of beings, what they see may differ.
