Regarding the Commentary's statement 'the first two conform to their categories,' for instance, when a Buddha appears in the Sahā world he can only be sixteen feet tall, but if born in Sukhāvatī he is immeasurable yojanas; one cannot use a Tathāgata of immeasurable yojanas to transform sentient beings with three-foot bodies, nor a sixteen-foot Buddha to transform beings ten thousand fathoms tall. Lifespan is also like this: dwelling in this land it does not reach a hundred years, whereas the people of Amitābha all have immeasurable life. However, this pair also pertains to the number of beings capable of transformation. Next, 'one condition being broad or narrow': when conditions are broad, the land is broad, like the lands of Mañjuśrī and Samantabhadra; when conditions are narrow, the land is narrow, like the land of Kāśyapa's Prabhāketu. Fourth, those suited to hear three [vehicles] have the marvelous jewel of the one vehicle concealed from them, while those suited to hear one [vehicle] have the lesser carts of sheep and deer abolished. Fifth, for those whose faculties are ripe, transformations are many, as in Śākyamuni's transformations; when not ripe, transformations are few, as with the Tathāgata Suśānta. This is also due to conditions being broad or narrow in the causal stage.
